Psalm 119:55
Lord, I remember your name in the night, and I obey your instruction.
Today is Veteran’s Day. Today is a day for us to remember all those who have served our country in our Armed Forces and those who are currently serving. We truly are the home of the free because of the brave. On November 11, 2006, President George W. Bush offered these remarks from the Arlington National Cemetery,
“On this day, in this month, at this hour, our nation remembers the moment when the guns of World War I went silent — and we recognize the service and the sacrifice of our nation’s veterans. From Valley Forge to Vietnam, from Kuwait to Kandahar, from Berlin to Baghdad, our veterans have borne the costs of America’s wars — and they have stood watch over America’s peace. The American people are grateful to the veterans and all who have fought for our freedom…May God bless our veterans, may God bless all who wear the uniform, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.”
On this day we continue to offer the same sentiments. It is imperative that we never forget the sacrifice of those who have served our country so selflessly.
Psalm 119 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving for the faithfulness of God written by a war veteran. If anyone knew the rigors and horrors of war it was David. David said that when night would come He remembered the name of the Lord and set his heart to obey God’s instruction. What do you do when night comes in your life? Remember. Never forget the faithfulness and sovereign grace of God. No matter what you have walked through in your life or are walking through today, God is good and His plan is for your blessing. Remembering God’s goodness is a discipline of the faith. It takes intentional effort for us to set our mind on God’s promises. I call on us today to remember. Remember our veterans. Thank God for them, and remember God’s faithfulness in your life. No matter how dark it gets, or how difficult the path, the light of God’s love penetrates through it all. Remember.
