Proverbs 3:27
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.
“Spiritual freedom is the foundation of political freedom. God gives us freedom and when we decide to follow Jesus, we find ourselves the most free: Free from selfishness, free to love others, free to forgive, and free to follow the life that God has for each of us.“ Dave Eubank, founder of the Free Burma Rangers, remembers these words vividly spoken by his father, a missionary for over 60 years. Dave’s fascinating story (which he is sharing TONIGHT at Living Hope) started when he realized a deep need in Burma for resources and aid to people victim of the longest standing civil war in the world. He simply made the decision that he would go where the need is. What a bold move! This choice put his life in jeopardy on multiple occasions. But it has also been the route to an unmatched joy of fulfilling the great commission and letting God be in the driver’s seat.
What do we think the Lord meant by saying that he needed laborers for the harvest? That the amount to harvest was a massive endeavor, but the workers are few? What would it look like if God’s people all had the same attitude that we will go where God sends us? That challenges me so much. So where do we go from there? How about this as a starting point. Each of us has a “circle” of influence. A group of people that know us. That we have the opportunity to influence because they are consistent observers and participants of our life. What would it look like for you to influence your circle for Christ? Maybe that means guiding a conversation towards Jesus. Maybe that means being opportunistic when you see them struggle. Maybe that means an invitation to church, or better yet, a bible study or devotion you lead once a week before work or during lunch. Maybe that means praying consistently for each person in your circle by name, and watching how the Lord works through prayer. God wants to do incredible things through us, so that we are fulfilled by accomplishing a real purpose and He gets the glory. Let’s identify our circle, run to where the need is, and be ready for God to use us in new and fresh ways!
