Choosing Should Over Could

READ: Matthew 26:36-46; James 4:13-17

Devotional:

In Gethsemane, Jesus faced the ultimate choice between "could" and "should." He could have called down angels to rescue Him. He could have walked away from the cross. Instead, He prayed, "Not my will, but yours be done." Every day presents us with similar choices. You could react in anger when someone wrongs you, but should you? You could speak harshly to that difficult coworker, but should you? You could hold onto that grudge, but should you? The Christmas spirit is choosing obedience over impulse, God's way over your way. This requires intentionality and the power of the Holy Spirit. Today, identify one area where you're choosing "could" instead of "should" and surrender it to God.

Reflection:

What immediate gratification are you choosing over long-term obedience to God?
