The Brevity of Life and Eternal Perspective

James 4:13-17

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will travel to such and such a city and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”  Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring what your life will be! For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.  Instead, you should say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.  So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.

The parable of the rich fool reminds us of life's brevity and the importance of living with an eternal perspective. Our time on earth is limited, but our choices have eternal consequences. How are you using the life God has given you? Are you investing in what truly matters? Today, consider writing your own obituary as a spiritual exercise. What legacy do you want to leave? What changes might you need to make now to align your life with God's purposes? Pray for wisdom to number your days and live intentionally for Christ.
